Need Help Choosing Helpdesk Software?       

There is a lot of help desk software out there, how on earth do you decide which is best for you?

Well it isn't easy and we are not going to pretend that we have all the answers, but perhaps the following might help.

Ask yourself:

Is the product going to meet all my minimum requirements for help desk software?

You have made a list haven't you? Don't expect 'off-the-shelf' software to be a perfect match for your business. The only way you will get that is by spending many hundreds of thousands of dollars. There will always be compromises but you should aim to get the best "bang per buck"

Will the vendor be around for the foreseeable future?

If you need support in the future, are the people who wrote the code (which isn't always the same as the vendor), going to be around? Don't assume that only big companies can survive, we have all seen plenty of examples where big companies have gone bust or lost interest in a product line.

Is the price right?

A difficult one. Beware of software that is too cheap (was it written by some teenager in their back bedroom?) or free (will they offer support?). Are you paying too much for features you will never use? Are you paying for a horde of salespeople living it up on the expense account?
